The Troy Trojans wasted no time asserting dominance on Friday night, September 19, overwhelming the Towanda Black Knights with a relentless attack on both sides of the ball in a 44-0 shutout victory.

The fireworks started early. Deep in their own territory, quarterback Mason Smith broke free for a 65-yard rush that set up Troy’s first scoring drive. A few plays later, Smith connected with Trey Teribury in the corner of the end zone. On the ensuing extra-point attempt, a bobbled snap turned into opportunity as Spencer Martin found Smith in the opposite corner for two points, giving the Trojans an 8-0 lead.

Troy struck again on their next possession. Smith faked a handoff before launching a long pass to Brendan Gilliland for another touchdown. With Gavin Lykon-Leffler’s kick good, the Trojans extended their lead to 15-0.

The defense soon joined the highlight reel. Towanda, under heavy pressure, rolled right only to have their pass intercepted by Martin. Troy quickly capitalized as Gilliland took a wide pitch into the end zone, stretching the margin to 22-0.

The Black Knights’ struggles continued on special teams when a high snap sailed over their kicker, setting up the Trojans inside the 10-yard line. Smith wasted no time, finding Reed Palmer wide open for another score. By the end of the first quarter, Troy had built a commanding 29-0 advantage.

The onslaught continued as the Trojans added three more touchdowns in the second half, while their defense refused to yield. When the final whistle blew, Troy had secured a resounding 44-0 shutout.

With the win, Troy turns their attention to this Friday’s home matchup against the Wyalusing Rams. Towanda will look to regroup as they travel to Canton to face the Warriors.
