Trojans Trample Hornets 53–7 in Explosive Home Victory at Alparon Park

by Wyatt Wood - October 6, 2025

The Troy Trojans lit up Alparon Park Friday night, overwhelming the Wellsboro Hornets in a 53–7 rout that showcased explosive offense and unrelenting momentum from the opening kickoff.

Troy wasted no time setting the tone. Mason Smith fielded the opening kick, found a seam, and dashed untouched to the end zone after a perfectly executed return, giving the Trojans an instant 7–0 lead following Gavin Lykon-Leffler’s extra point.

Just seven minutes later, Troy struck again. Deep in Hornet territory, Smith handed off to Brendan Gilliland, who cut inside and dove past the pylon for the score. The kick was good — 14–0 Trojans.

Moments later, Gilliland continued to punish Wellsboro’s defense with a powerful breakaway run from midfield, stretching the lead to 21–0. With just over a minute remaining in the first quarter, Gilliland completed his hat trick, adding another six to the board.

Before the quarter could close, Troy added one more highlight-reel play: a quick shovel pass from Smith to Spencer Martin, who slipped through defenders and sprinted to paydirt. The scoreboard read 36–0 after just one quarter — and the Hornets never recovered.

Though Wellsboro managed to avoid a shutout with a late fourth-quarter touchdown, the night belonged entirely to the Trojans. Their dominance on both sides of the ball left no doubt as they cruised to a commanding 53–7 victory.

The Trojans will look to keep their momentum rolling this Friday for Homecoming night as they host North Penn-Mansfield. The Hornets, meanwhile, will regroup at home for their own Homecoming game against the Canton Warriors.
