Trojans Stampede Over Bedford Bisons In Quarterfinals
On Friday, November 22nd, the Troy Trojans traveled to Lock Haven University to face off against the Bedford Bisons in the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class AA State Playoffs!
The Trojans used their first couple of drives to get their bearings. But then – Troy found a momentum building opportunity. Bisons in their own territory, drop back to pass, but the Troy defensive line contains – forcing the throw – right into the hands of Trojan Joseph Frye. This led to the Trojan’s first scoring drive.
As they pressure their way down the field, and in proper Trojan fashion, Evan Woodward slams his way up the right side. Touchdown! Gavin Lykon-Leffler’s kick was good, points on the board, 7-0.
Second quarter. Bisons struggling to put the puzzle together turnover the ball to the Trojans. And from deep in their own territory, Woodward fakes it up the middle, finds an outside lane, and gets the Trojans into the red zone.
Next, on a trick play, Woodward pitches to Mason Smith, who airs it out to Lincoln Chimics in the corner of the end zone. The PAT was good, Trojans on top, 14-0.
Just before halftime, Trojans advance their way down the field. Then, inside the 10, Gililland muscles his way around the outside. After the kick it was 21-0 going into the locker room.
After a Bison turnover, Trojans on their own 48 – Woodward hands off to Gililland. He finds the sideline and is GONE! Lykon-Leffler split the uprights, giving Troy a commanding lead, 28-0.
Just under seven minutes left in the third, Trojans marching down the field yet again – Woodward steps back in the pocket, scrambles left, calls his own number, diving for the pylon. The extra point was good, Troy dominating 35-0.
The Trojan’s secondary caught the spotlight one more time on the night. Bisons in Trojan territory, third and long, once again they drop back to pass – Trojan Ben Warburton takes the ball from the hands of the receiver, setting up another Trojan advance.
Next, Woodward wheels right, and launches a bomb into the Frye basket. That’s another Trojan FIRST DOWN with two yards to go.
Kael Millard finishes off the scoring for the Trojans, rumbling his way across the line. Kicker Lykon-Leffler was 6 for 6 on PATs for the night.
Bedford overcame the shut out midway through the fourth quarter. However, the Trojans remain undefeated – moving on to next week with a final score of 42-16.
The Trojans will be back on the field this Friday at Towanda as they face off against the Riverside Vikings in the state semi-finals.
