Trojans Overpower Canton for the Old Shoe, 49-6

by Wyatt Wood - October 27, 2025

On Friday, October 24, the Canton Warriors hosted the Troy Trojans for the annual Old Shoe rivalry game to wrap up their regular season. The Trojans came out on top with a commanding 49–6 victory.
Troy advanced down the field halfway through the first quarter. Inside the 10-yard line, Mason Smith hit Trey Teribury in the end zone for the touchdown. Troy took the early lead, 7–0.
With just over five minutes left in the first quarter, Troy’s defense forced a turnover on downs. After another Trojan drive, Mason Smith broke to the outside on a quarterback keeper for another score. The kick was good — 14–0 Troy.
Canton tried to slow down the Trojan offense, but on 3rd and 8, Smith aired it out to the corner of the end zone, connecting with Spencer Martin for the touchdown just before the start of the second quarter. Gavin Lykon-Leffler’s kick was good, and Troy led 21–0.
With 7:30 left in the half, Troy once again marched into enemy territory. Smith pitched it outside to Brendan Gilliland, who turned on the jets for another Trojan touchdown, extending the lead to 28–0.
Troy went on to score three more times before halftime, heading into the locker room with 42 unanswered points.
Seconds into the fourth quarter, Troy increased the gap. Spencer Martin, in shotgun formation, called his own number and weaved his way through the defense for the score. The kick was good, finishing out the Trojans’ scoring at 49–0.
Canton finally found some breathing room late in the fourth to avoid the shutout. The Warriors forced a Trojan punt, and on Troy’s 45-yard line, Owen Moore aired it out to Ryder Route for the touchdown. The PAT was blocked, making the final score 49–6.
This concludes the regular season as we head into the 2025 playoffs. The Troy Trojans will host the Wellsboro Hornets next Friday at Alparon Park on their road to districts.
