Trojans Defend Alparon Against the Wildcats
On Friday, October 17th the Troy Trojans football team hosted the Central Mountain Wildcats in a 99-point game on senior night, for the last Troy home game of the regular season.
Both teams offense struggled to find their way into scoring territory – until just under 6 minutes left in the first. Troy advances their way down the field. Then, inside the 5, Mason Smith gets big in the box on the quarterback keeper – for the opening Trojan touchdown. Gavin Lykon-Leffler’s extra point was good, Troy leading off 7-0.
Minutes later, Troy regained possession and quickly advanced into the red zone. Smith called his own number, following strong interior blocking to notch his second touchdown of the night and extend the lead to 14-0.
Central Mountain answered early in the second quarter. Quarterback Kyle Everett handed off to Dalton McDermott, who followed his blockers into the end zone to bring the score to 14-7 after the extra point.
Lining up on the Wildcats’ 43-yard line, Smith executed a flawless play-action pass, connecting with Reed Palmer for a touchdown. Lykon-Leffler’s kick was good- Trojans’ lead 21-7.
The Wildcats found the end zone again midway through the second quarter with a deep pass to Mason Masorti, who bobbled the ball before recovering for the score. However, Troy blocked the extra point, keeping the score at 21-13.
Before halftime, Smith tallied his third touchdown of the night, following Kael Millard around the edge to extend Troy’s lead. Lykon-Leffler split the uprights, making it 28-13.
Just before the buzzer, the Wildcats pressure up the field and sneak in a field goal before heading into the locker room. At halftime, Troy was up 28-16.
The second half was a whole different story as the Trojans came out with a vengeance with some halftime adjustments – scoring 42 more points to Central Mountain’s 13. By the end of the game, Troy claimed the devastating victory, 70-29.
The Troy Trojans will be back in action this Friday as they travel to face the Canton Warriors for the Old Shoe rivalry game.
