Trojan Football Secures Victory Over Warrior Run In Playoffs
On Friday November 7th the Troy Trojans football team conquered the Warrior Run Defenders at Defender stadium. Troy came out strong in the first then the Defenders stalled the Trojan Offensive but ultimately fell under the Trojan boot.
Early in the first despite the rain Mason Smith takes to the skies and Trey Teribury wrestles it down for great field position. Then Smith pitches to Brendan Gilliland cutting up the defense for the opening. Gavin Lykon-Leffler’s kick was good Troy leads 7-0. Later in the quarter Smith calls his own number finds the open field and is gone. The kick was good Troy out ahead two scores. The Defender offense was unable to find any weak spots in the Trojan Wall. Forcing a turnover. Then on second and 10 just inside Defender territory, Gilliland receives the pitch and hits the wide open hole following some amazing blockers. Troy on top 3 unanswered scores. With just under 6 minutes left in the first quarter the defends get on the board. Just inside Trojan territory Defender Jacob Kiefer airs a big ball out to Cohen Zechman. Carter McCormick’s kick was good Troy still leads 21-7. Troy kept the pace up in the first quarter as Gilliland dominated the box the kick is good maintaining a comfortable lead 28-7
With just over 9 minutes left before halftime Gilliland finds an inside seam and rides it all the way for the 96 yard rushing touchdown. The Trojans failed the two point attempt. 34-7 Troy. The defenders found some space for the remainder of the second crossing the goal line. As the Defenders march their way down the field then inside the 20 Kiefer opts for the short pass to Maxwell Fogleman. The kick deflected off a defender making the score 34-13 Trojans going into the locker room.
The Defenders came out of halftime with a fire in their belly and put up two back to back scores decreasing Troy’s lead to only a 14 point difference. Third quarter with 10 minutes left Kiefer airs it out to Zechman for the score setting a new school record for touchdowns scored in a season. The kick was good Troy out ahead 41-27. The defenders had an opportunity to take the ballgame back as they force out the Trojan field goal team. But the immovable Trojan wall stood firm outpacing Warrior Run ending the ball game and moving on to the finals 48-34.
The Troy Trojans are on the road this week headed to Southern Columbia to face off against the Tigers at 7pm competing for the PIAA D4 class AA district title.
