Trojan Football Dominates the Hornets 49-8

by Wyatt Wood - November 3, 2025

On Friday, October 31, the Troy Trojans hosted the Wellsboro Hornets for the 2025 PIAA District 4 Class AA first round of playoffs.
The Hornets got on the board early after receiving the opening kickoff. Griffin Morel faked the pass, found a seam, and went all the way for the score. Wellsboro followed up with another fake, as Max Mascho hit his brother Marek in the corner of the end zone for the two-point conversion. Wellsboro led early, 8–0.
Troy responded with just over five minutes left in the first quarter as Mason Smith rumbled through the box, broke free, and turned on the jets for a touchdown. The Trojans also went for two, with Smith calling his own number to tie the game at 8–8.
The Trojans found the end zone again with just under a minute left in the first. Smith pitched it outside to Brendan Gilliland for the score, but the kick was no good. Troy took the lead, 14–8.
With 9:05 remaining before halftime, Smith handed off inside to Gilliland, who cut back and burned the Hornets for another touchdown. The kick was good, putting the Trojans up by two scores, 21–8.
Later, Wellsboro in scoring position air the ball out- but Seth Feldmeier bobbles it for the pick.
Troy capitalized quickly. Inside the red zone with just over three minutes before the half, Smith cut through the defense for an easy score. Gavin Lykon-Leffler’s kick was good, extending Troy’s lead to 28–8.
With just under two minutes left in the half, the Trojans continued to dominate the gridiron. Smith followed his blockers for another touchdown, sending Troy into the locker room with a commanding 35–8 lead and a running clock.
The Trojans went on to score two more touchdowns in the third quarter, sealing a 49–8 victory and advancing to face the Warrior Run Defenders next Friday.
