Trees Donated for Arbor Day
The wind was blowing at the Laura Morse Memorial Arboretum in Canton the day we chatted about Arbor Day and what it means to Lauren Schoonover Preston, President of the Canton Shade Tree Commission. Listening to Lauren share her story of bonding over trees with her grandmother was really inspiring. Lauren takes pride in keeping the tradition alive for her four children and working to inspire others in the community as well.
Canton has been awarded a Tree City USA for multiple years due to Lauren and Amy Seelye taking the time to meet the criteria needed. Watch the broadcast to hear what that criteria is.
As part of First Citizens Community Bank’s celebration of their 150th anniversary, they donated 150 trees in part to the Canton Elementary 4th graders. As part of the Arbor Day Celebration piece of the Tree City USA, Lauren went into the school to inspire and teach the 4th graders about planting trees and why it is important.
If you are resident of the Canton Borough you can qualify for a reimbursement of $150 if you plant a tree in accordance with the Shade Tree guidelines. Please reach out to Lauren at 607-846-8164 for more details.
