Tioga County Homeless Initiative Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony
On November 4th, many gathered at the Tioga County Homeless Initiative property to show their support at their Groundbreaking Ceremony. This work for the homeless began ten years ago with the creative dedication of Abby Thorborg. Along the way, the following joined her board to assist in caring for others in need: Carol Wooley, President; Tom Harmic, Vice-President; Bob Wooley, Secretary; and Nancy Tubbs, Treasure.
In those ten years of operating the shelter, they have assisted over 1,000 people, including families and singles. The home where the journey began is now one hundred years old and has outlived its original purpose, and at this time, they are at total capacity and cannot receive more guests. Hence, the need for a larger and more efficient building to grow the work of the ministry.
Abby and The Capital Campaign Committee have been working together to raise funds for the new building. The committee members are Rob Fitzerald, Ron Butler, Bill Carson, Kevin Green, Deb Cram, and Linda Cox. So far, they have raised over $700000. The total cost for the project is estimated to be around $1500000.
If you want more information about the work of the Tioga County Homeless Initiative, please visit their website at tiogahomeless.org. And, if you would like to donate to the building fund, you can mail your check to 2580 Charleston Road in Mansfield, PA 16933.
