Tigers trounce Wyalusing, 62-37

by Brady Connolly - February 7, 2017

North-Penn Mansfield hosted the Wyalusing Rams on Monday February 6th, in what was Senior Night and their final regular season game. The Tigers allowed the Rams to hang around for three quarters before running them off the floor in the fourth quarter, and taking home a win 62-37.

Prior to the varsity game North-Penn Mansfield honored their seniors. Each senior was given the opportunity to be announced as their parents escorted them to center court. Coach Kipper Burleigh followed the introductions with a heartfelt message to his seniors, in which he thanked them for their hard work and dedication and highlighted their many accomplishments over the past four years.

North-Penn Mansfield senior Brock Burleigh has been one of District IV’s leading scorers all season, but early in the game Burleigh showcased his unselfishness as he got his teammates involved. Jon Morrison was the lone scorer for Wyalusing in the quarter, finishing with all 5 of their points in the quarter.

The Tigers began to assert themselves in the second quarter, using the same balanced scoring attack that has highlighted their season. Burleigh, Nick Kasper, Konnor Manikowski, and Shane Kelly all recorded field goals in the quarter. The Tigers led by as many as 14 points in the quarter, until a late three-pointer from Wyalusing’s Will Martin cut the lead to 11 at halftime, 27-16.

The third quarter began with North-Penn Mansfield picking up the pace on offense and rattling off several quick baskets to start the quarter. Wyalusing would not go without a fight, with 2:30 left in the quarter North-Penn Mansfield was forced to use a timeout after back-to-back three-pointers from the Rams cut the lead to just 8 points. Wyalusing would get as close as 6 points before the Tigers closed the door for good.

North-Penn Mansfield dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Wyalusing 17-4. The Tigers turned a string of Wyalusing turnovers into easy transition buckets, which was highlighted by a Burleigh to Manikowski alley-oop with 4:30 left in the game. North-Penn Mansfield didn’t look back as they ran away with the victory 62-37.
Wyalusing was led by Jon Morrison with 12 points, and Will Martin contributed 11 points.

North-Penn Mansfield’s Brock Burleigh led all scorers with 21 points. Konnor Manikowski finished with 18 points, and Shane Kelly had 11 points.

The Tigers hit the road on Thursday, February 9, to travel to Northeast Bradford for their first round match up of the NTL Showdown.
