Tigers top Trojans in Double Digits

by Brady Connolly - January 4, 2017

The North Penn-Mansfield Tigers started off the new year in style defeating the Troy Trojans, 77-48. The Tigers started the game off hot from the outside. Early on, Brock Burleigh drew the defense and kicked it out to Konnor Manikowski for a wide-open 3. That would open the floodgates as Mansfield hit 3 after 3 after 3 after 3. The Tigers also did work on the inside as Burleigh cleaned up the miss and battled through three defenders for the basket. He continued his work on the inside, grabbing his own rebound and going back up for the hoop plus the harm. North Penn Mansfield also played well on the defensive end of the floor, highlighted by Garret David’s monster block to close out the quarter.

In the second quarter, Shane Kelly got into the act as the Tigers swung it around for an open mid-range jumper. The run continued as Nick Kasper found his way to the basket for a layup. Moments later, Manikowski came up with a steal and took it all the way for another layup. Manikowski closed out the first half, beating the defense baseline and finished with a difficult reverse layup. Mansfield led, 46-25.

Second half – The Tigers continued to show their touch from the outside as Kasper walked into a long-range bomb. Manikowski returned with his signature reverse layup to increased the Tigers lead and close out the third. Kelly continued to control the paint as he corrals the rebound with one hand and goes back up with the finish. The Tigers carried on to win the game, 77-48.

The Tigers face-off against long-time rivals – the Wellsboro Hornets – this Thursday in the Hornets’ Nest. We’ll see you there. Thanks for joining us today on Home Page Sports.
