Tigers focus, Panthers take down Warriors

Tigers show poise going into playoffs, North Penn uses the 3 to drain Warriors

by Joe Carreon - January 29, 2014

As playoff time nears, each team’s focus must be tuned in to the task at hand. After Mansfield’s win against Cowanesque Valley, you certainly get that impression. Head Coach Kipper Burleigh has his team playing some of their best basketball when its important. Homepage’s Jason Fletcher spoke with Coach Burleigh on some of their upcoming games and what they need to focus on.

Tuesday night featured a double header. The North Penn Lady Panthers traveled to Canton where the Junior Varsity and Varsity squads faced each other.

The night started with the JV teams squaring off. The Lady Panthers were able to hit shots early to build a big lead. The lady warriors played tough but fell to the Lady Panthers 17-41.

During the varsity matchup, North Penn was able to take an early lead off great shot selection. The Warriors attacked the lane numerous times counteracting the Panthers jump shots. The Lady Warriors had their opportunities and the offensive looks were definitely there, they just weren’t able to convert on most of the looks that were given to them. As the second quarter got underway, the lady panthers shooters came alive. They rained down three-pointers for much of the period to build a huge lead that would be hard for the warriors to overcome. Canton played tough and showed their heart but it wouldn’t be enough to overcome the panthers. North Penn defeated the Lady Warriors 78-23.

Don’t forget to join us this Monday morning for all the highlights from this Fridays upcoming matchup between the Wellsboro Hornets and The Troy Trojans.

For the complete interview with Mansfield Tiger Head Coach, Kipper Burleigh and highlights from the North Penn Lady Panthers win over the Canton Lady Warriors, be sure to watch the recap above!
