Tigers claim District Championship Title!
The North Penn-Mansfield baseball team, for the first time in 12 years, took home the District IV Championship Title. The game took place at the historic Bowman Field in Williamsport against Warrior Run on Tuesday, May 31.
Let’s pick it up at the top of the second as Levi Adams was hit by a pitch while attempting to bunt and was awarded first base. Then Dylan Williamson drove him home with an RBI triple to right field.
Williamson was replaced by courtesy runner Dylan Meyer who was bunted home by Dewey Wise who made it safely to first.
Later in the inning, with bases loaded, JP Shaw hit a sacrifice fly to center field bringing in the third run of the inning for the Tigers.
At the bottom of the inning, the Defenders brought home their first run of the game as Lloyd Minium came up with a shot down the third base line.
In the top of the third Dylan Williamson drove in run number 4 for the Tigers as Dylan Wesneski strolled across home plate.
Also in the third, Warrior Run answered back with a run of their own as Teddy Bender came home off a Kade Meyer double to cut the score to 4-2.
Warrior Run had several big opportunities to score, but Shaw constantly found ways to shut them down.
Finally, in the 6th – Williamson walked to first, was replaced by base runner Dylan Meyer, who then stole second base – putting himself into scoring position. Next, Brendan Hill came up with a huge two-out single into the gap in left center field, scoring Meyer.
Then – the big moment came in the bottom of the 7th with two outs, a runner on first as a tough ground ball was hit up the middle but diving Kipp Wilson fielded the ball, then scrambled to touch second base to end the game, 5-2.
North Penn-Mansfield will advance to the state tournament on Monday, June 6th at a District II site.
