The Last, First Friday of 2016

by Loren Nowak - October 7, 2016

October 7th marks the end of our 3rd season of Wellsboro First Fridays. We are finishing up the season on a high note: our best lineup ever! Come early as it gets dark sooner these days.

How about free, easy and fun dance lessons in 4 different styles? Enjoy free hot dogs, chair massage and mini-manicures, free beer and cider tastings, face painting, cookie decorating, The Great Pumpkin Hunt, games and contests, music and art all over downtown Wellsboro! Let’s fill the streets tonight, starting at 5:00pm!

There will be free hot dogs generously provided by one of our County Commissioners, Roger Bunn. If a plain hot dog doesn’t suit you, try one of Roger’s Chili Dogs. Or, to spice things up a little, have one with locally made hot sauce and sweet onions. Stop by 17-1/2 Crafton Street to enjoy!

Come experience free dance lessons at the Deane Center! Easy and lots of fun, these are short, beginner lessons – 25 minutes each and start at 5 PM. Move along with Foxtrot, Swing, Waltz and even Rumba! Grab a friend or family member for some smiles and fun. Kacy Hagen grew up in Wellsboro and came back to offer these and more dance lessons in many, many styles. (More details on our Facebook page.)

At The Deane Center outdoor stage area, bring the kids to have their faces painted by Heather Ladd and the Middle School Student Council. They will also be playing a “Plinko” type board game.

The Wine & Design fundraiser for Haven of Tioga County starts at 5:30 PM in the Deane Center Warehouse Gallery. For more information, visit: www.havenoftiogacounty.org

Next door at The Fifth Season: It’s The Great Pumpkin Hunt! Register with KC101 in front of the store to participate in the hunt. Find one of 101 pumpkins at participating downtown businesses (including The Fifth Season!) Each business will have their own way for you to “win” a pumpkin. Every pumpkin wins a prize. One pumpkin will win $101.00!! Stop in from 5-8pm for a Beer & Cider tasting. We will have different types of beer and hard ciders for you to sample, and we’ll also have plain cider for the little ones. Take a picture in our scarecrow stand-in…always fun for kids and adults alike! Don’t forget to take advantage of The Fifth Season’s huge blowout sale going on, with savings from 20-60%, on the sidewalk and in the store as well!

Have your kids participate in the sidewalk chalk contest in front of Stained Glass Reflections. Apryl Tubbs and Tioga Partnership for Community Health will facilitate the contest and award 3 prizes, courtesy of Peggy’s Candies & Gifts.

James States, our local potter, will again be at the wheel again in front of the Stained Glass. If you’ve never seen him work, this is your last chance this season. It’s so much fun to see the kids create something with muddy hands.

Head to The Native Bagel on Central Avenue and bring your children for fall cookie decorating. While there, relax with a cup of coffee if you like, and listen to songs by Kres Kilmer.

Dunham’s Department Store: It’s hard to believe, but Dunham’s is in the middle of their 111th year serving Wellsboro and the surrounding community. Get Bonus Bucks with purchases to spend later and register to win special gifts from 5-8 in various departments. And the store is filled with special buys. Dunham’s always supports First Friday so lets go support them. Stop in and say hello.

Head over to Shabby Rue and bring the kids. Free glow bracelets while supply lasts. Purchase $50 or more and get a free Halloween scarf while supplies last. And there are sales, sales, sales all over the store. Check out the new fall line of clothing, too.

Pop’s Culture Shoppe: Chase away monsters, fling some bats, and possibly win a pumpkin at Pop’s! Stop in to learn some of our favorite fall family games, and then enter the drawing to win a KC101 prize pumpkin. You could win a prize worth $5, $25, $50 or even $101! Plus enjoy music, art and more fun and games all night long! And live music out front by Jesse Gotschal, AKA The Road Virus and art by Josh Crane.

Peggy’s Candies & Gifts will be starting their Christmas giveaway. For every $20 spent get a free ticket to win one of two 3 foot long TY Dogs. Also, pumpkin fudge is back!

Join In My Shoes for the Great Pumpkin Hunt and the Fall Roll Out Celebration! Introducing great new fall designs and a blow out sale of select styles.

Grubby’s Games on Pearl Street: Free Disk Cleanings! 10% off games and 15% off accessories. Plus, stop in at Grubby’s for a chance to win one of those pumpkins in The Great Pumpkin Hunt.

ProCare Physical Therapy will be in front of Hub’s Oxygen with a fun Fall scavenger hunt. Check off the items on the list and win a prize. Easy!

At our own downtown Subway stop by and get a FREE PUMPKIN SPICE COOKIE (while supplies last). This is for EVERYBODY, kids and adults alike. Plus there’s a special deal. Buy one six-inch sub and get the second free with the purchase of any drink.

Our local chapter of Trout Unlimited will be in front of Wild Asaph Outfitters They’ll have a fish tank with brook trout (thanks to help of USGS!), some coloring activities or activities where kiddos can make a crafty fish of some kind. Here’s a chance for the whole family to have fun checking out fish and to teach kids a bit about health of our cold water streams. Fun AND educational! A perfect finish to a great Wellsboro First Friday season.
