The Cadence of the Game
Football is considered by many to be America’s new favorite pastime, and a huge part of that game-time spirit is stirred by incredible music!
Besides the athletes, there’s another “team” pouring countless hours of practice, hard work and passion into making Friday nights an epic occasion. For Hornet fans, that team is the Wellsboro High School Marching Band!
At the head of this program is Mr. Dan Sensenig, who has been the music teacher at Wellsboro Area High School for the past two years. He and the students spend months preparing for the athletic seasons.
“We usually start up somewhere in June,” said Sensenig. “We do a couple of practices, at least once a week so that we know what we’re doing with the music, a just a little bit of marching. The big push is during band camp. We get the drills, the music, the color guard on top of things. My favorite part of marching band is working with the kids. It’s a unique thing and it’s fun too. It’s nice to see the kids outside of the concert setting and go out and perform for those huge audiences.”
The color guard also accompanies the band and performs under the instruction of Mrs. Maggie Sensenig, who enjoys working with the students.
“It’s a really great group. They’re all new, but they have a lot of heart, a lot of spirit.” said Maggie. “We’re getting a lot of things done. My favorite part is seeing it all come together.”
This year’s marching band is co-conducted by drum majors, John Kotz and Kaycee Hulslander.
“My favorite part is the camaraderie the bandmates share,” said Kotz. “The bond that we make, and seeing the new people warm up to everyone else.”
Home Page would like to thank the Wellsboro High School Marching Band for for all the hard work they’ve put into making Friday night football a momentous occasion.
