by Diane Eaton - February 4, 2016

Coming up February 18th-21st, the 5th Annual Endless Mountain Music Festival Jazz Fest will delight local music enthusiasts, with concert locations both in Wellsboro and Mansfield.

At the first show on Thursday, February 18th, at 8 pm, EMMF and Mansfield University are bringing the thirty members of the Cory Band of South Wales, U.K. to perform in Steadman Theater on the Mansfield University campus. The “No. 1 ranked brass band in the world,” the Cory Band is the 2015 National Brass Band Champions of Great Britain.

This will be the band’s first visit to the United States in 40 years. Their themed performance at Mansfield is titled “A Space Odyssey” and will include music from the Star Wars movies, Star Trek, E.T., and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Other pieces to be performed include celestial-themed, “Stardust” (Hoagy Carmichael) and “Mars” from Gustav Holst’s The Planet Suite. Tickets concert are $15 per person or $10 per person for groups of 10 or more through music.mansfield.edu or endlessmountain.net.

On Friday, February 19th, at 7:30pm the Deane Center’s Coolidge Theatre will host “Big Band Sounds,” performed by The Mansfield University Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Jeff Jacobsen, and the X-Ray Big Band, directed by Enrico Doganiero. Seating will be arranged around a number of tables, and tickets holders are welcome to bring beverages and snacks. Tickets are $25 per person, available through the Deane Center or at endlessmountain.net.

Saturday, February 20th, the Penn Wells will be serving dinner in their hotel dining room from 5-7pm, followed by a concert and dancing. The Bram Wijnands Trio, a festival favorite, includes performers Wijands on piano, Jeff Jacobsen on bass, and Joe Turner on percussion. Tickets are $25 per person. Additionally, a featured jazz artist will be performing at the Penn Wells brunch from 10am-1pm, Sunday, February 21st.
