The 2014 Laurel Festival Recap

by Corrin Binford - June 24, 2014

Thousands of people from all over Pennsylvania gathered in Wellsboro for the 73rd Annual Laurel Festival. The streets were lined with excited spectators as the parade proceeded through town. This year’s theme for the parade floats was “Uniting with Nature.” Over 110 vendors came to sell their wares and homemade goods. Some of these vendors offer their products year round. A couple of these vendors include local business, Sharp Woodworks and Originals by Janelle Janca.

The 2013 Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen, Hailey Innocenzo of Towanda, returned to Wellsboro to pass on her crown. The Coronation took place Saturday night at the Wellsboro High School Auditorium after a weekend filled with fun activities for the queen candidates. The representatives toured the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, participated in the Laurel Parade, enjoyed concerts and responded to interviews from both the judges and local radio stations.

The candidates were narrowed down to the Top 10. The Top 10 then had to participate in an “on-stage question” session. Finally, the judges announced who would represent the state as the Pennsylvania Laurel Queen. Gabrielle Antonicelli of Jersey Shore was named the 2014 Laurel Queen and received an academic scholarship of $1,000. She was also awarded the Miss Congeniality Award. First runner-up was Ally Morgret of Hershey.
