Summer Activities Roundup 2019

by Rhonda Pearson - June 26, 2019

Today on The Home Page Network, correspondent Rhonda Pearson highlights just a few of the summer activities happening in our communities for the summer.

For all the state park enthusiasts or those who want to venture outdoors – you may want to check out Hills Creek State Park and Cherry Springs State Park.
Hills Creek has two events coming up this weekend. On Friday, June 28 at 6 p.m. there will be a free, hour-long presentation on Pennsylvania’s most mysterious bird of prey, the owl. On Sunday, June 30 at 8:30 p.m. there will be a guided firefly walk and discussion on the science behind Pennsylvania’s state insect.

Do you love looking up at the stars? Then visit Cherry Springs State Park on June 28 & 29. The park staff at Cherry Springs will be giving a free Night Sky tour from 9:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. Pre-registration is required. You can learn more by visiting their website.

Our community libraries always offer fun and educational summer programs – and this year is no different. The national theme for this year is “A Universe of Stories.” Wellsboro’s Green Free Library program is Wednesdays, from 10:30am – 11:30am; Mansfield’s Public Library is on Wednesdays from 10am-11am; and Blossburg’s Library is on Wednesday’s from 11am – 12pm. You can find out more about these and other events going on by contacting your local library, visiting their Facebook pages, or websites.

A couple of weeks ago, Home Page featured a story about Dan Riley and what he is doing for local charities through his business in Knoxville: Wolf Springs Off Road Park. Their event weekends occur all summer long and ensure a fun time for the whole family. The next mudding event is coming up on July 6 & 7. You can visit his website and Facebook page for admission prices and more information. You can also check out his feature here.

When you think summer, you think swimming. Our local community pools are the perfect way to cool off on our warmer summer days. Have you visited yours lately? Check out their websites and Facebook pages for admission fees and other summer events. Below are the hours of operation, weather permitting.

Packer Park Pool in Wellsboro:
– Monday – Friday: 1pm – 7pm
– Saturday – Sunday: 1pm – 6pm

Island Park Pool in Blossburg:
– Monday – Friday: 12:30pm – 6pm
– Saturday- Sunday: 12pm – 5pm

Mansfield Community Pool:
– Monday – Saturday: 12pm – 7pm
– Sunday: 1pm – 5pm

Lastly, Independence Day on July 4 will be here before you know it. Watch for our feature on Fireworks Safety with Benton Best, coming soon.
