Relay for Life is a celebration to honor and remember loved ones who have been touched by cancer. Teams work all year to raise money to donate to the American Cancer Society to be used for research and programs that assist families through their battle with cancer. A portion of the proceeds remain within the county to assist with transportation to and from treatments, lodging for those who need to travel, wigs, and classes to educate and encourage people through their journey. This year there are 19 teams registered bringing the total number of participants to 101! Teams walk the block around the green to honor, remember, and support those who have faced cancer. You don’t need to be on a team, the public is welcome to walk a lap (or more) in honor of a loved one, walk a lap with a survivor, walk a lap with a caregiver, or walk a lap with a friend. White luminarias will be available for a donation or purchase a gold luminaria for $10 and you may decorate them yourself,

Each year a theme is chosen to add more fun to the celebration. This year the theme is Vacation Destinations. Some of the laps will be dedicated to a particular vacation, costuming is encouraged, but not required. Dress for the beach, camping, Disney or a European vacation. There will be a photo booth with props. There will also be entertainment throughout the day including a dance demonstration from Dance Rush, music from Nite Light Entertainment, the Hitchin’ Post, Brandon Lusk, and a live DJ. There will also be games, food, raffles and luminarias to increase the donation levels.

7:30 Craft Time – make your own fire fly
8:30 Story Time

The Tioga County Relay for Life will be held on Saturday July 20, 2019 from 10am – 10pm on the Green in Wellsboro.
