Stay Safe on the 4th!
The fourth of July is both a celebration of American history as well as an opportunity to spend time with our loved ones and fellow community members. But being proud to be an American doesn’t mean that we should put those loved ones at risk. It’s important to think of safety FIRST this summer during our celebrations rather than put ourselves in harms way.
Please be aware of and follow these tips to enjoy fireworks safely. If fireworks are legal in your community and are a part of your celebration:
1. Please be sure to store and use them safely.
2. Keep kids and pets away from fireworks at all times.
3. Read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and only use fireworks as they were intended.
4. Fireworks should only ever be used outdoors and away from structures, automobiles, or around very dry vegetation.
5. Keep spectators at a safe distance.
6. NEVER attempt to relight “dud” fireworks. Instead, wait 20 minutes and then soak them in a bucket of water prior to disposal.
Of course, attending fireworks displays organized by professionals is always safer than trying to put on your own show.
Also, please remember to use alcohol responsibly. Alcohol and fireworks can be a hazardous and dangerous combination. Be sure to always have a designated driver to bring partygoers home from any festivities.
Think of these safety tips BEFORE using fireworks, whether it’s for 4th of July or a part of any of your family summer celebrations. It’s important for us to celebrate our country’s independence, but it’s more important for all of your family members to come home safely.
Happy Independence Day!
