Simple Gifts in Concert!
Today we spoke with Linda Littleton, one of the members of the performing group Simple Gifts, about their concert at the Deane Center on Friday night, March 13th, at 7:30PM.
Linda and her musical partner Karen Hirshon have been playing together for 19 years, performing a variety of international music with many different instruments. Some of their instruments are rare and probably most of those coming to the concerts have never seen them before. Their passion is to take simple melodies and make up harmonies and counter melodies that they develop for presentation. They spend hours on this process and enjoy every moment!
Linda and Karen switch with ease among the fiddle, mandolin, banjo, recorders, bowed psaltery, hammered dulcimer, baritone fiddle, guitar, and percussion.
This concert at the Deane Center will be set in a cabaret style and attendees are encouraged to bring snacks and drinks to enjoy in this relaxed atmosphere. Linda said they really enjoy interacting with the audience and they really like the mixed aged audience. Children and adults can both learn about the instruments and music during the concert. Sometimes the audience is given the opportunity to choose what country they want to hear music from and the duo answers questions about their instruments.
Once again, Simple Gifts will be performing this Friday, March 13th at 7:30 pm at the Deane Center. The cost is $20 for an adult and $10 for children. This Thursday – if you mention this feature on Home Page and call the Deane Center at (570) 724-6220 or stop by their establishment – you can purchase tickets at a discounted price: $15 for adults and $7.50 for children. This Thursday, Home Page will also be giving away three sets of tickets on our Facebook page – so watch for that!
