SHOP SMALL THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

SHOP SMALL THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

by Tonya McNamara - November 23, 2022

After the turkey dinner and football, shopping is one of the holiday weekend’s time-honored traditions. Last year, the National Retail Federation reported nearly 180 Americans shopped over the five-day holiday weekend.

Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday, a shopping holiday introduced by American Express in 2010.

This year Small Business Saturday is on November 26th and was designed to help small businesses compete against major retailers during the holiday season.

After two years of people’s holiday activities being curtailed by the pandemic, they are more than ready to meet their neighbors and friends on Main Street. Small Business Saturday is a great excuse to get out and about.

Besides wanting to help keep small businesses afloat, shoppers are drawn to local independent retailers because that’s where they can find unique holiday gifts not available from big retailers and they realize small businesses are essential to their communities.

Small businesses have been challenged throughout the year by inflation, the need to raise prices and continuing supply-chain issues along with hiring and retaining staff so, your support will be especially appreciated this year.
