Second-Half Surge Seals Senior Night Win for Galeton

by Wyatt Wood - February 8, 2026

Senior night couldn’t have gone much better for the Galeton Tigers.

On Thursday, February 5th, the Tigers boys basketball team welcomed the Austin Panthers to their home court for a special evening honoring the program’s seniors. Before tip-off, senior players were recognized alongside their families, with the boys presenting flowers as a gesture of gratitude. Once the ceremonies wrapped up, the focus shifted to basketball.

Back-and-Forth First Half

Austin struck first, opening the game with a three-pointer to grab an early lead. Galeton answered quickly, as Gavin Shutt cut inside and knocked down a jumper from the foul line to get the Tigers on the board.

The Panthers leaned on strong ball movement to keep momentum, closing the first quarter ahead 14–10.

The second quarter turned into a battle. A heads-up steal by the Tigers led to a Shutt layup, and moments later, Shutt drained a deep three that pushed Galeton in front. Austin responded with a smooth offensive reversal to knot the score at 17–17.

By halftime, neither team could pull away. Both squads converted from the foul line late in the period, sending the game into the break tied 20–20.

Tigers Take Over After the Break

The second half told a completely different story.

Galeton clamped down defensively, shutting off Austin’s scoring options and steadily pulling away as the Tigers controlled the tempo on both ends of the floor. The Panthers struggled to find rhythm as Galeton powered its way into the fourth quarter with a commanding lead.

The exclamation point came late, as Trey Lehman initiated the offense and found Ben Holcomb, who quickly dished to Jack Wilson on the block. Wilson finished strong in the post for an easy two — the final nail in the coffin of a 43–28 Tigers victory on senior night.
