Second Chance Heading Home Center Benefit is Saturday, Oct. 8

Jerry Gaye is shown with some of the wooden bar stools, bird houses, a star, a mouse and other items he has made from a wide variety of trees, white pine to cherry that he grows on his property in Osceola.
Beginning at noon on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Knoxville VFW at 703 Boatman Road in Knoxville, Pa. 16928, Jerry and Helen Gaye of Osceola will host the eighth annual benefit for shelter animals. There will not be an admission or cover charge to attend.
“My wife and I, joined by many others, are trying to do what we can to help dogs and cats that need homes,” Jerry said.
People who attend can donate money or bring a bag of dog or cat food or cleaning supplies for Second Chance’s Heading Home Center.
Available for purchase starting at noon will be food, such as hot dogs, chili and freshly roasted peanuts. The Chinese auction will include gift cards, jewelry, toys, dishes, cookware and lots more. Offered during the yard sale will be bird houses, planters, bar stools and other wooden items, all handmade. There will also be music.
All proceeds will be donated to the Heading Home Center operated by Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries, Inc., a volunteer organization that was founded in 2001 in Tioga County.
In September of 2016, Second Chance opened its no-kill Heading Home Center for dogs and cats at 725 Gee Road in Middlebury Township. Between 2001 and the opening of the shelter in 2016, Second Chance volunteers had fostered lost cats and dogs in their homes until the animals were adopted by new owners or their original owners could be found.
“The Heading Home Center has guaranteed that 100 percent of the funds we provide will directly benefit the animals,” said Jerry.
For more information about the benefit, call the Knoxville VFW at (814) 326-4321.
