Save the Skates, Revive the Gym!

by John Vogt, Todd Moss - November 18, 2014

Today on Wellsboro Home Page we are encouraging our viewers to join with us on a very special project. You can make a difference for good while promoting family fun and healthy, wholesome activity.

If you have ever been roller skating at His Thousand Hills, then you probably know how terrible their roller skates are. When they were donated to the camp, they were already worn out and that was 20 years ago! As a non-profit, His Thousand Hills can only work with what they have, so they have continued to use those worn-out skates.

His Thousand Hills currently has an opportunity to replace all the skates in disrepair! There is a skating rink in Virginia that is going out of business and selling everything. If our Wellsboro Home Page family can help raise about $2,000 – they can replace both the skates and sound system in the gym that has not worked properly in several years.

Have you ever heard the old saying, “no individual can do it all, but all of us together can get it done?” If we all give a little, we can get this done and be a blessing to the people of our community – especially our youth. Wellsboro Home Page is donating $100.00 to His Thousand Hills and we are encouraging our Home Page viewers to join with us.

We believe this is a timely opportunity to make these much needed adjustments, as just last Tuesday (on Family Skate Night) they had over 100 people attend – the music was barely playing from one of the only working speakers and several youth went without skates because they did not have enough.

His Thousand Hills offers Family Skate Night to the community at no charge; attendees are welcome to make a donation at the door. This provides a wonderful low-cost opportunity for families to enjoy a night out together. The roller skating is also an important event for all the youth and campers that visit His Thousand Hills from around the country. The local public schools often have field trips and bring their youth to His Thousand Hills to roller skate. Other groups, like Concern, also enjoy bringing their youth to His Thousand Hills for roller skating. Because this is such an important activity offered to the community, His Thousand Hills wants to make it as fun, safe and enjoyable as possible.

Please help us raise the needed funds to replace the skates and the sound system. Go to this website and make your donation today: http://histhousandhills.org/rollerskates.

Thanks to all our Home Page viewers for your generosity and, once again, rising to the occasion to touch our community for good. You are the best! Thanks and blessings.
