Ride Along with Patrolman Christman

by John Vogt - March 2, 2018

Our local area schools have many unique opportunities and programs for students to learn from hands-on training and in-the-field experience. One of these includes the Ride Along Program in partnership with the Wellsboro Police Department. This program has been in existence for over 20 years and has been well received by educators, parents, law enforcement officials and students alike. Students ride along with the WPD for approximately two hours of an officer’s shift. During those two hours anything can happen, setting up a perfect learning experience for the students. The program is not only informative and interesting, but has students on the edge of their seats as they watch our police officers in action.

“I think it gives the students and the kids in the community a different perspective that they don’t have coming into this class,” said Patrolman Christman, one of this year’s officers involved in the program. “I was actually a product of this program when I was in high school and I took a lot out of it.”

Today’s broadcast features a preview of what it’s like to ride along with law enforcement as Home Page hops in the back seat with two of our area students as they learn what it means to serve and protect our community.
