“Quilts Are Just Full of Love…”
The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild begins their exhibit September 6 at at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center on First Friday from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
We spoke with Kate Means and Betty Westlake-Reist among all of the beautiful quilts at the exhibit. Kate is the newly appointed president of the guild and she shared her enthusiasm with us about this year’s showing.
The first meeting for the MLQG was held in 1998 with Mary Jane Ehlich and Madalene Murphy as the first leaders. This exhibit is being held in honor of the first president, Mary Jane who passed on recently. (One of her beautiful quilts is also on display.)
Home Page correspondent Sara Vogt showed Kate the quilt that MLQG had put together about seven years ago for hospice that was given to her daughter, Johanna after her grandmother had passed on. Johanna had used the quilt for years for comfort and support. “Quilts are just full of love…” remarks Kate.
Betty and Kate also shared with us what we can expect to find at the exhibit on First Friday night. When you enter the exhibit you will be given a program telling about all of the quilts and the opportunity to vote on the viewer’s choice selection. There are also be quilts for sale that the guild members have made to support the American Cancer Association. Each of these “colors of cancer” quilt is $25.00. Some of the other quilts on display are also for sale. Refreshments will also be available as guests admire the quilts. For more information on the exhibit you can go to their Facebook page, or the guild website – www.mountainlaurelquiltguild.org.
