Project Rebuild at Tioga County YMCA

by John Vogt - January 21, 2015

The Tioga County YMCA is excited about their new renovation project, and so are many of our area residents. The new endeavor is called Project Rebuild and will be a tremendous improvement to the facility.

Tioga County YMCA Executive Director, Sonja Davy, talked with Home Page correspondent Ryan Campbell about the important changes that are coming. Sonja said that another name for the project is “Project Rebuild – Growing Strong Together.”

Sonja says that the project focuses on three different areas. The first deals with the buildings three bay garage. The project will turn this area into a wellness center. The center will be climate controlled, feature new storefront type windows and house the facilities cardio and strength training equipment.

The second phase of the project will upgrade the gymnasium. New ceiling fans will be installed, along with a much-needed gym divider. The gymnasium will also receive a completely new paint job.

The third phase of Project Rebuild will include a men’s and women’s locker-room, and each will have a their own shower facility.

Sonja said that she hopes for board approval for the project this month and to have construction begin in February.

Hopefully this project will bring an increase in programs and membership – which are vital for sustaining the YMCA. The renovations will also help the Y fulfill its mission in our community of providing youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
