Personal Profiles: Johanna Vogt

Violinist & broadcaster shares background & tips

by Johanna Vogt, Home Page Staff - April 23, 2019

Tioga County is home to people from various walks of life – from teachers to doctors to artists and computer technicians. But how did they become what they are today, and what brought them here? These questions and more are answered in this Home Page series: Personal Profiles. Today’s broadcast features Home Page anchor and correspondent, Johanna Vogt.

Johanna Vogt was born in Gaozhou, China. She was abandoned and left in a small box outside a bank in the city where she was discovered and taken to a nearby orphanage. She was then adopted at ten months old by her God-given parents, John and Sara Vogt who operated Seven Locks Broadcasting Copany, Inc. serving the Nation’s Capital area. The station was owned by Jim and Mary McIlvaine along with a small group of investors. John and Sara held a small percentage of the stock and managed the company. As a result of John and Sara’s career path, Johanna has been surrounded by media and broadcasting from the time the Vogt family landed back in the USA from their adoption trip in China. At the age of two, she was already on the air – sharing and communicating whatever goes through a two-year old’s mind. Johanna has been working with The Home Page Network since its beginning in January 2014. She has had the opportunity to help share many people’s stories – from politicians to farmers to musicians to athletes. It has been an incredible journey and honor, and she feels incredibly blessed by every encounter.

At the age of five, Johanna’s mother encouraged her to start playing an instrument. Johanna chose the violin and has been playing ever since. Johanna has had many opportunities to play for various audiences – from world-renowned musicians to the sweetest people in nursing homes. She currently plays violin in the Mansfield University Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra of the Southern Fingerlakes. She also is a private teacher and loves investing in people’s lives through music. She’s had the opportunity to play at many different events such as First Friday, Dickens of a Christmas, weddings, special events, and many more. She is very grateful for every opportunity to serve and play for God’s glory.

Johanna is a senior in high school and plans on attending Liberty University in the fall. She will major in Music Performance and Broadcast Journalism. After college, she is unsure of what will take place or where God will lead her. Her ultimate goal is to love God and love people. She believes that if she does that, then nothing else really matters. And everything else that happens is a bonus granted from the Lord, the Most High King of Kings.
