Our New Borough Manager

by John Vogt - July 7, 2017

Today on Wellsboro Home Page we take the opportunity to thank our outgoing Borough Manager Daniel K. Strausser for his service to our community and introduce you to Scot F. Boyce, JR our new Borough Manager.

Dan talks to us about what inspired him to embrace the position of Borough Manager. The daunting title was not Dan’s first rodeo. He had retired his position as Borough Manager in 2005. Then five or six years later Dan discovered that Wellsboro was looking again to fill the position. At that point in Dan’s life, he felt like he was missing something and needed to be helping people more. With his wife’s approval, Dan applied again for the position. Dan said that he has enjoyed serving our Wellsboro residents in this capacity immensely.

So, what does the Borough Manager do? Do you know? For those of you who are not sure here’s the answer. He or she runs the day to day operations of the borough. These responsibilities include but, are certainly not limited to managing the streets, the water, the sewer system, recreation, and general public togetherness. Dan said that working on the borough’s infrastructure has kept him most busy. It’s an area of responsibility that is always changing and moving forward.

We asked Mr. Strausser what would be one of his fondest memories. Interestingly enough Dan reflected on the water filter plant. When Dan was hired, he was told that there were three things he needed to work on, water, water, and water. Dan believes that getting the water filter plant in place has helped the borough greatly.

Mr. Strausser’s parting advice to Scot is to remember that you can’t please everybody. To do the job right, you will always have people who will not like the results. You have to look at the whole picture for the entire borough. Dan’s last day on the job is August 4th.

During the second half of today’s broadcast, we meet Scot Boyce. Scot is very grateful for the training he has had and the well thought-out and executed transition. Scot’s first day was April 3rd. He has been preparing to take over completely on August 4th. Wellsboro Home Page thanks the borough for a well-handled transition.

Scot promised to keep the water flowing. He loves our town and wants to keep everything running smoothly. Scot desires to use his skills, education, and experience to serve the people of Wellsboro well. Scot believes that the people who live here are very proud of our town. He is too and wants to keep things running efficiently. Scot agrees with Dan that infrastructure is a critical issue as we move forward as a community.

We asked Scot if anything surprised him as he was going through Borough Manager Boot Camp. He responded immediately with a yes. Scot said that being on the outside as a citizen you don’t realize how much goes into keeping everything moving. Even what seems to be simple things like getting parking lots and sidewalks cleaned off in the winter months can be a challenge at times.

Wellsboro Home Page thanks, both Daniel K. Strausser and Scot F. Boyce, JR for their service to the citizens of our community. And, we wish Scot all the best in his new role as Wellsboro’s borough manager.
