by Ed Weaver - December 20, 2024

North Penn-Mansfield took the series lead in the Margaret (Peg) Berguson Memorial Trophy Game rivalry as they defeated Wellsboro 63-33 on Thursday, December 19.

Early on the game was close as the Tigers had a 19-13 lead after the opening eight minutes of play, however they pulled away from Wellsboro by outscoring the Hornets 35-13 in the middle quarters. North Penn-Mansfield went on a 19-7 run before halftime to lead 38-20 at the break, then padded their lead to 54-26 after three quarters of action by outscoring Wellsboro 16-6.

Wellsboro held North Penn-Mansfield to just 9 points in the 4th quarter, however the Tigers’ damage in the 2nd and 3rd was too much to overcome.

Junior Jonathan Carl led Wellsboro with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 5 steals while senior Mitchel Lechler scored 8 points. Junior Luke Rothermel added 5 points and 3 boards, sophomore Colin Fletcher chipped in 4 points, junior Marek Mascho finished with 3 points, and freshman Griffin Morral and sophomore Max Mascho had 2 points each.
