North Penn-Mansfield Suffers 34-13 Loss to Towanda
The 2022 season for the North Penn-Panthers brings about a new team and a new head coach with Chris Olson. Expectations were high for the team, but it was not in the cards for the Panthers, as they dropped their season opener to Towanda, 34-13 on Friday, August 26.
Towadna scored four times in the first half, twice in each quarter, on the legs of Grady Flynn and Riley Vanderpool. Flynn’s three runs were from 9, 5, and one yard, while Riley Vanderpool ripped off a 48-yarder in the 2nd.
The Panthers’ defense did buckle down in the second half as they held the Black Knights to just one score, a two-yard run by Flynn. Also, the Panthers’ offense woke up and put two scores on the board. Their first was a one-yard QB sneak by Karson Dominick, after George Valentine scooped up a loose ball around midfield and returned it down inside the Towanda 5.
The second score, with 1:27 left in the 3rd quarter, came on a 20-yard pass from Dominick to Sammy Lawrence.
Dominick finished 9-for-23 for 112 yards. Kohen Lehman carried the ball 12 times for 85 yards and caught 3 passes for 39 yards. Alex Davis also caught 3 passes for 20 yards and Cooper Shaw caught two balls for 33 yards.
The Panthers (0-1, 0-1 NTL Large School Division) have a short week as they host Canton at Island Park on Thursday, September 1.
