NP-Mansfield Commencement 2019

by Ashayla Faulkner - June 10, 2019

Friends, family and other loved ones filled the stands in Decker gymnasium at Mansfield University on Saturday, June 8th, to witness the graduation of North Penn-Mansfield High School Class of 2019. Here, students who had grown up and learned together as one unit for 13 years all joined together again for possibly the last time.

At 10:00 am everyone rose while the North Penn-Mansfield High School band accompanied the Senior Class with Pomp and Circumstance as they paced through the center of the gymnasium, wearing robes of blue and gold and filed into rows at the front.

Everyone respected the flag as the band played the National Anthem, then everyone took their seats in anticipation. Ronald, J. Farrell, The Senior Class President, opened the ceremony by welcoming the Class of 2019. This was followed by Ellianna Fry, who introduced Superintendent Mr. Sam A Rotella Jr. Mr. Rotella then gave the first powerful and uplifting speech of that morning.

Afterward, John Minnich and Megan Derstine from the Class of 2019 conducted the Mantle Oration while Sara Swingle and Cassandra Brooks from the Class of 2020 responded.

Next, Brooke Harvey delivered her Salutatorian speech thanking many individuals that helped her along the way, while reciting the accomplishments of fellow classmates.

Then Sydni Miller serenaded the crowd on her clarinet with No. 5 Adagio con espressione which was then followed by Alexis Pratt’s Valedictorian speech where she reminded everyone to keep their individuality and differences.

Ellianna Fry then returned to the stage to introduce Keynote Speaker Mr. James Goodrich a 1996 Graduate of Mansfield High School. After being honored with a sincere speech from Mr. Goodrich, Principal David spoke some emotional words heavily influenced by his love for these students.

Finally, the time arrived for the students to receive their diplomas. They lined up uniformly and patiently waited in excitement. Each student’s name was called, and as they walked across the front platform, their future plans were shared with the audience. Each student was greeted with a huge loving hug from Principal David and a handshake and their diploma from Board of Education representative, Mr. John Martin.

Ronald Farrell and John Minnich returned alongside Principal David to certify the North Penn-Mansfield Class of 2019. The graduates moved their tassels from right to left and sang their Alma Mater together one last time.

Their accomplishments were celebrated as Life is a Highway erupted from the loudspeakers to send them off out into the world. Row by row the proud graduates strolled out of the gymnasium holding their heads high. They were then greeted by beaming parents and supportive friends, thus bringing an end to the 107th Annual Commencement of North Penn-Mansfield High School.

Correspondent Ashayla Faulkner then spoke to Principal David and a few graduates including the Valedictorian and Salutatorian. They shared many things, such as how they felt after graduating and what they were looking forward to the most now that high school is over. They also shared their plans for the future and some of the challenges that they will face along the way. They were also kind enough to give some advice to underclassmen, and heartfelt thank yous to those who have helped them along the way.

Congratulations to the North Penn-Mansfield Class of 2019! The management and staff of Mansfield Home Page would like you to wish you all the best as you venture out and explore the world and your individuality. May your futures be bright and forever prosperous.
