New Locally Made Ice Cream
Wellsboro has a brand new creamery! Rick and Lori Beckwith have just opened the Main Street Creamery where they make ALL of the ice cream, gelato, and Italian ice on location. First, the ingredients are thrown into a batch freezer where it freezes the ice cream. It is then put into tubs and placed into the deep freeze. It will come out and be put into a tempering freeze where it’s brought up to temperature. It is then ready to serve!
In today’s broadcast, Rick explained that one of the hardest parts of opening a new business is the long, hard hours. Making ice cream is a very long process if you want good quality. Buying ice cream in bulks would be much easier for them, but they want to serve their community the best they know how. They are incredibly thankful for Tioga County coming around them and supporting them on this new venture.
They have a significant and special flavor in honor of Paige Griffen. In October of 2016, Paige was diagnosed with a type of soft tissue cancer known as undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS), formerly referred to as malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Despite her struggles, Paige’s outlook on life inspired and uplifted those around her for the two years that she fought. It was this passion for helping others that led Paige to create The Humble Bumble Project, a nonprofit charitable organization to help other families in need. The humble bumble ice cream flavor is a dark chocolate ice cream filled with raspberry swirl and raspberry chocolate candy – Paige’s favorite ice cream. The Main Street Creamery donates the profits from the “Humble Bumble” ice cream to the Humble Bumble Project.
The Main Street Creamery is located at 17 Main Street in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. Hours of operation are everyday, Sunday through Saturday, from 12pm-9pm. You can contact them by calling (570) 948-9558.
