New Covenant Academy K’NEX Teams Tie for 3rd Place!

by New Covenant Academy Staff - March 14, 2018

New Covenant Academy sent two teams of K’NEX kit engineers to the 2018 Regional STEM Design Challenge, hosted by BLaST Intermediate Unit 17. The event took place at Pennsylvania College of Technology on March 9th, and the “Lions” and “4th Grade Muske-gears” tied for 3rd place in the 4th-5th grade division.

The K’NEX STEM Design Challenge tested the skills of 25 teams from 14 school districts throughout Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan and Tioga counties. Each team, comprised of up to 4 members, had two hours to build an eco-friendly device for the home, using up to 1,400 K’NEX kit pieces.

Representatives from Larson Design Group, Comcast Spotlight, PA CareerLink, Cascade Systems, LLC, McTish, Kunkel & Associates, and Pace O Matic, Inc. participated in judging the teams on key 21st-century learning skills including creativity, teamwork, challenge success, design and presentation.

This was the first year that New Covenant Academy participated in the K’NEX STEM Design Challenge and the students were thrilled to be leaving with medals. The K’NEX teams plan to compete again next year!
