Mrs. Ross’ Bean Team Brews Up Life Skills and Smiles
Every Friday at Canton Elementary School, a pleasant aroma fills the halls as a coffee cart travels to each classroom thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Ross’s Bean Team. On Wednesdays, the learning support classroom takes a trip to the grocery store to pick up the ingredients needed for the upcoming Friday. Students in Mrs. Ross’s class take turns taking staff members’ orders, serving them, collecting funds, and counting change. For a little extra sweetness, the Bean Team also serves delectable baked goods graciously provided by a parent, who wishes to remain anonymous.
When asked her favorite part of this weekly tradition, Mrs. Ross herself said, “I love to see the excitement in the school during the week; I have teachers coming up to me asking ‘What are the treats this week? What are the coffee creamer flavors? I can’t wait to see your students throughout the building,’ so just the excitement and the hustle and bustle of the Friday mornings.”
While teachers and staff members get delicious coffee delivered right to their door, students also benefit by gaining life skills such as teamwork, responsibility, how to handle money, and much more.
