Movin’ Together – Weightlifting

by Sara Vogt, ACE Certified Fitness Trainer - October 31, 2024

October’s Movin’ Together tool is Weightlifting!

Lifting weights isn’t just for gym rats and muscleheads. On this broadcast, we’ll explore the top 6 benefits of proper Weightlifting that everyone can enjoy!

The Top 6 Benefits of Proper Weightlifting include:
It strengthens our bones…Increases our metabolism…It lowers our blood pressure…Lightens our mood …Improves our posture…and can reduce the signs and symptoms of many chronic conditions! Let’s explore each of these benefits!

#1. How does Weightlifting strengthen our bones? During weight-bearing activity, the muscles and tendons apply tension to the bones, which stimulates the bones to produce more bone tissue. In just 6 weeks! As a result, bones become stronger and more dense, and the risk of osteopenia, osteoporosis, and fractures decreases.

#2. It increases our metabolism! Strength training can help you manage or lose weight and boost your metabolism, enabling you to burn more calories.

#3. It lowers our blood pressure. The extra muscle built from lifting weights gives your blood more places to travel, reducing pressure on your artery walls. As you build muscle through resistance training, your body creates more capillaries (tiny blood vessels) within the muscle tissue, allowing for better blood flow throughout the body.

#4. Weightlifting can help lighten our mood! Lifting weights releases endorphins, which can help relieve stress, fight depression, and improve mood.

#5. When done correctly, it improves our posture. Some weightlifting exercises can help improve your posture. As you can see demonstrated here!

Lastly, #6. Extensive research shows that strength training can reduce the signs and symptoms of many chronic conditions, such as arthritis, back pain, obesity, heart disease, depression, and diabetes.

Oh, and here’s a free bonus benefit: There are eleven ways to increase bone density naturally: guess which one is at the top?
