Movin’ Together – Time Out, Stress Less
In today’s episode of Movin’ Together, Sara Vogt and Amiee Jones discuss the importance of taking “time out” or making time for yourself—an essential healthy tool to help in this journey called life! So far in our healthy tool basket for the year, we have added the tools of scheduling and hydrating. (Speaking of scheduling . . . sometimes our time out needs to be put in the book!)
Sara describes a time out that she has scheduled for herself on a regular basis for over two years. It has been a time of self-care, of learning, and of friendship; and now her friend, Kim, is making changes in her own life that involve taking time out on a larger scale.
Sara explains the journey like this: “For over two years, I have been taking a time out to have my nails done with Kim Hazlett at Jeanette’s Hair Care. Kim has taught me a lot about hand and nail care. A way of feeling more confident about myself when meeting others, plus my husband enjoys the look of my nails. When we spoke about the tool of scheduling earlier this year, one of the encouragements was to set a goal. For many years, Kim has worked two jobs and decided to set a goal of retiring from one of her jobs when she turned 40. This decision is having a direct impact on where I will be having my time outs in the future.”
During her last pedicure and manicure session at Jeanette’s, Sara asks Kim to talk about her plans. Kim explains, “I have decided to retire from this part of my life . . . It was about re-evaluating what I do with my time . . . When you have so many priorities, you do try to fit everything in, and it just came to a point where I had to make some changes so that I could do some things that are also important to me.”
Sara and Kim discuss the Zig Ziglar quote, “Making a big life change is scary, but know what’s even scarier? Regret.” Kim knows that she will miss so many of the relationships that have been cultivated through her time at Jeanette’s, but she also knows that she needs to make this change in her life.
Sara views Kim’s decision as an inspiration: “Kim’s stepping out to follow her goals is an encouragement to me, even though I will miss her caring for my hands. Her decision has created a challenge for me—a new adventure for my time out.”
“The Crabtree & Evelyn products used today,” Sara notes, “Are what I choose to use at home and are purchased at Dunham’s Department Store in Wellsboro (shopping local!). The nail polish is beneficial for your nails, easy to apply and dries quickly. Most of us women may have time to paint our nails, but we do not have an hour to wait for them to dry! Also, they are safe for our daughters to use!”

And as we conclude this edition of Movin’ Together, we will leave you with two quotes to encourage us as we step out to follow our goals, or to make the decision to schedule a regular time out:
“Don’t be afraid of change, because it is leading you to a new beginning.” Joyce Meyer
“Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.” Jim Rohn
