Movin’ Together – Rail Trail Adventure

by Sara Vogt - May 31, 2019

Our first adventure with Linda Stager on the Pine Creek Rail Trail was in 2016. Since then many of us, including myself have read her book the Pine Creek Rail Trail Guidebook and learned about the rich history and heritage of the trail. In 2016 we journeyed from Darling Run to the Turkey Path which is what our route was on this adventure!

Before we began our journey Linda gave us a wonderful lesson on wearing our bike helmets correctly! (Please watch the video as she teaches, as it’s easier to watch than explain.)

Linda has been riding this trail for years and her passion and joy sharing it with others is tangible. Like when she announced in a very joyous way that an eagle was flying past us so we could all enjoy the moment. We also saw many wonderful birds – some singing beautifully as we passed by them. So many sights and sounds to capture and remember. Fishermen, families, dogs, and rafters all enjoying the beautiful day on the trail.

At Pinafore Run she gave us the history of George Washington Sears, also known as “Nessmuk.” During his lifetime he stressed the importance of conserving our natural resources and pressed others to address it. Therefore we have this trail today because of his efforts which took place in the 1800s. She pointed out Barber Rock and Colton Point on the video.

In Movin’ Together we encourage us, women, to keep moving! We know that movement is good for our body, soul, and spirit and moving outside in God’s creation is an even better blessing! Every tool we use in Movin’ Together aids us in fighting off cancer. As in this case when we move our bodies they release great hormones that cause our immune systems to be stronger.

My daughters Johanna and Julianna joined us on this adventure and it was a bittersweet ride for me personally because Johanna who has been doing this adventure from the very first one is going off to college this fall. It was also wonderful because my ten-year-old daughter Julianna was able to ride successfully on the entire trip. Spending time with our family and friends is a gift for all of us to treasure.

Curt Schramm of CS Sports in Wellsboro sponsored the ride with Linda on the Pine Creek Rail Trail. For more information on his store, please visit the CS Sports Facebook page.

Both Julianna’s and Sara’s bikes were purchased from the store, along with the bike rack!
