Movin’ Together – Never. Give. Up.

by Sara Vogt - ACE Certified Personal Trainer / Senior Fitness Specialist - January 29, 2025

In the Movin’ Together philosophy, keep moving is our motto! Keep moving with God, family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. I am starting my day by doing a Bible devotional with a couple of friends and then spending the rest of my quiet time reading through the Bible this year with the devotional written by Nicky Gumble. As I start my day looking to God for direction for the day, He leads me by His Holy Spirit.

In the past few months, I have sensed God’s strength to not give up but to do my best for my family and friends. I have started the Healthy Lifestyle Class at Vineyard in Wellsboro which has encouraged me to support others’ healthy habits that they are attempting to pursue! We joke about our need to be proactive about our health, seeing that two of the nursing homes in our area have closed. My mom came to live with my husband John and me when she turned 84 and passed away in our home when she turned 91. She was very active in her life, gardening, square dancing, and playing with her grandchildren. She lived a mostly healthy lifestyle, so she lived well and died well.

Come to the Healthy Lifestyle Class which meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 to join in on the fun!

If you take care of your body, your body will take care of you—and you are only given one! Never give up looking for ways to be healthier throughout your lifetime! What does “Never Give Up” mean?

Let’s remember this 5 point strategy to not give up:
1. “Never give up” is an expression that “means to keep trying and not stop, even when things are difficult.” It is a personal decision that only we can make.
2. It’s “a mindset that encourages us to persevere and be resilient in facing challenges.
3. Go back to your why and focus on that when struggling.
4. Remember that it doesn’t matter how slowly you go; as long as you don’t stop, keep moving!
5. Get help when you need it.

Do you have a specific goal for this year? How are you doing?

Some of us are battling disease, choosing healthier habits, resolving family conflicts, or trying Dry January. We all want to enter this year with a new hope of doing and feeling better. Make America Healthy Again is for everyone!

I am working on two important health goals. I usually struggle with eating enough – I am too busy doing other things – or I choose not to eat when under pressure, like some of you may eat more when you are under pressure! I have tried the My Fitness Pal app for free for the past month, and because they gave me 30% off the premium price, I bought it for the year. As a premium member, I can track my protein more efficiently. As we age, we need more protein to build muscle, like when lifting weights in the Healthy Lifestyle Class at the Vineyard Church.

My second health goal is to track my daily water intake and stay hydrated during the day. I am using the app called Water Minder. They suggested 70 ounces a day for me. I was drinking about 20 to 40 ounces a day in the first three weeks. I have now hit 70, and the app has shown its approval! I need help hydrating during the day, and the app has a nice way of reminding me. Registering your intake fills the body so you can see your intake—a fun way to hydrate! How about you – do you need some help hydrating? You might want to give it a try!

These two apps have helped me stay on track! One is about calories and one is about ounces! I do not get paid to advertise these apps – maybe down the road!

Next month, we will be talking a lot about the tool of hydrating because Water is one of the best fluids for detoxifying our bodies and preventing cancer. This liquid is a foundational component of our body’s cells, providing nourishment to our whole body. Most of our bodily functions are supported by Water, like maintaining a healthy body temperature, eliminating toxins, and joint health. When in doubt – flush it out!
On a spiritual note, Jesus tells us in the Bible to never give up.

Luke 18:1 begins with Jesus telling his disciples a parable to teach them always to pray and not give up. The parable is about a widow who persistently asks an unjust judge for justice against her adversary. She does not give up, and the unjust judge finally gives her justice!

My word for this year is joy! In the Bible, joy is a feeling of happiness and contentment from the Holy Spirit and God’s presence. It’s a gift from God meant to be a hallmark of the Christian life.

Keep moving with joy until we meet again!

If you’d like to talk about how you can discover the joy, please email me at sara@thehomepagenetwork.com.

Special thanks to my son Regis for showing how to use the My Fitness Pal app!
