Mounties edge Rams, 42-38
The North Penn-Liberty Mounties improved to 3-0 to start the 2018 season after edging Wyalusing 42-38 in the final seconds on Wednesday, December 12.
“Wyalusing came out at the beginning and controlled the tempo and most of the first half,” said head coach Brian Litzelman. “In the second half we started to get out on the fast break and get a lead only to see it slip away on a banked three.”
With under 30 seconds left the Mounties missed a shot that Mikah Kolb rebounded and put back in to put them up over the Rams. A couple of foul shots pushed the lead to four, which North Penn-Liberty held on to.
Wyalusing had an 11-6 lead after the first quarter but the Mounties went on a 6-2 run in the second to cut the lead to 13-12 at halftime. North Penn-Liberty outscored the Rams 15-10 in the third quarter to build a 27-23 lead as the fourth quarter started before the Rams eventually took over.
Noah Spencer led North Penn-Liberty with 9 points, Duncan Zeafla and Logan Horsley scored 8 each, and Kolb and Brandyn Choplosky each finished with 7 points.
Ryan Armitage led Wyalusing with 14 points.
North Penn-Liberty hosts Athens on Monday, December 17.
