Mounties Battle Hard but Fall to Spartans in Season Matchup
Despite a gritty effort and a hard-fought doubles win, North Penn-Liberty came up short against a strong Hughesville squad, falling 4-1 on Wednesday at Island Park.
Hughesville set the tone in singles play, beginning with Kevin Bobak’s decisive victory over Ray Nickerson. Bobak controlled the match from the start, taking the first set 6-1 before holding off a late push to secure the second, 7-5.
Teammate Luke Ragan followed with another key win for the Spartans. After narrowly edging Silas Boiywo in a competitive first set, 7-5, Ragan found his rhythm and cruised through the second set, 6-1.
The Spartans continued their dominance in doubles action, where the pairing of Luke Vermeire and Michael Swales delivered a commanding performance. The duo shut out North Penn-Liberty’s Jediel Ocasio-Vazquez and Ayden Deitrick in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
North Penn-Liberty avoided the sweep thanks to a strong showing from Andre Reed and Toby Nolt. The Mountie pair battled through a tight contest to defeat Bailey Spring and Landon Hill, 6-5, 7-5, earning the team’s lone point of the match.
With the 4-1 victory, Hughesville walks away with momentum, while the Mounties look to regroup before their next matchup.
North Penn-Liberty returns to action on March 24, when they host the Towanda Black Knights.
