Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony
What comes to mind when you think of Memorial Day? Many of us associate the patriotic holiday with picnics, parades, and barbecues. Celebrated on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day was originally meant to honor military men and women who gave their lives in battle. Unfortunately, this solemn American holiday is often not the day of remembrance it was intended to be.
Investigating the initial purpose of the holiday, Home Page correspondent Drew Patrick recently took the opportunity to speak with Master Sergeant Claire Emery of Wellsboro VFW Post 4907. This interview explored the significance of the Memorial Day, as well as the events that will be taking place in Wellsboro in commemoration of the lives of fallen soldiers.
The Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 25th at 10:00am. Parade participants will line up at the Green, then proceed to the cemetery where the honoring ceremony will take place. This ceremony will be held by the flagpole to recognize and pay respect to those who sacrificed their lives on behalf of our country. Please consider attending—we hope turn out will be high, so that attendees can honor and reflect on the lives of our fallen heroes.
