Meet The Troy Town Band!

by Veronica Seymour - June 23, 2022

TROY — I had the pleasure to meet with Robert Oldroyd, founder of the Troy Town Band, he founded the band when he was in high school. They open up their summer series tonight at the Troy High School Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. Rob also talked about the Troy Jazz Band, a subsidiary of the Troy Town Band, which will be playing at the Troy Sale Barn on Friday, July 1st featuring Dance Instructor Stephanie Martin from 7 – 9. The Jazz band will also be playing at the next community dinner held in July, as well as at the Heritage Museum. Rob is involved with everything in our community and he is a great conductor of the Troy Town Band.

I talked to President Pat Rogers, she was a gem, she has been involved for years with the Troy Town Band, the band even though named Troy, has men, ladies and students from all over Bradford and Tioga Counties. Including Pat’s, daughter and son-in-law Gretchen and Matt Geer and their children Elizabeth and Evan Geer, Matt’s sister Carrie also plays. She is so proud of her family and the generations of them playing in the band. It was very exciting talking to her about the great things Troy Town Band brings to our community.

Finally, I talked to Elizabeth Geer, she is very involved in the arts in her community, I have interviewed her several times, and she is always very pleasant and great to talk with. She has been part of the town band since 7th grade, she graduated recently from Troy, she is going to do an Oboe Concerto and seemed very excited about this part. Elizabeth will attend Grove City College in the fall and will continue her oboe playing. I have really enjoyed watching Elizabeth in all she does in her school activities and her community. Good luck to her in the future.

You can check out Troy Town Band on Facebook for more upcoming Concert announcements.
