Mansfield University’s First Annual 24 Hour Giving Day

Mansfield University’s First Annual 24 Hour Giving Day

by Deb Bastian - April 5, 2022

Starting at 10:00AM Thursday, April 7th through 10:00AM Friday, April 8th, Mansfield University will launch their inaugural Giving Day. Casey Wood, Executive Director of Advancement shared, “We plan to make this an annual tradition at MU. This year, our focus is to generate scholarship support for our students who make our communities so vibrant.”

In planning the event, Casey said that she wanted to design a day that would blend MU with the community. In recruiting local businesses to participate, she said that it was not meant to be a hand-out or an “ask” for money. Instead, for businesses that offer a special discount that day, the Alumni Association will pay the business the balance of the discount. The hope is that community members will visit and support the businesses, even beyond the promos offered, and certainly that businesses and patrons alike will support Mansfield University’s Giving Day as well.

Special Giving Day promotions will be found at Night & Day, Conspiracy Coffee, Papa V’s, Sara Jo’s Stop and Go (Subway and the Yogurt Station), Lil Half Pint, Yorkholo Brewing Company, Thin Line Tavern and Hotties Hot off the Grill. Local popular band, Chasing Rabbits will perform a free concert on Thursday, April 7th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Straughn Auditorium to support Giving Day. There are no required tickets for the concert. Guests are encouraged to support Giving Day, as they can, upon entry to the event.

Brian and Stephanie Ulmer have set up a challenge campaign for the event. Brian is a 2005 Education graduate and Stephanie is a 2004 Business graduate. They are challenging grads from their respective programs to donate. Both Brian and Stephanie have donated $500 and are anxious to see which program raises the most scholarship funds. Another challenge donation is from the family of Howard and Olynda Smith. They have donated $10,000 for vocal music scholarships. They are hoping that music alumns will join them in matching their gift to raise money for Concert Choir scholarships in support of the Music Department.

How can you support scholarships at MU? On-line go to give.mansfield.edu and you can choose what program will benefit from your donation. If you’d like to call in a donation, dial 888-305-6505. Through the mail a check can be payable to Mansfield University and addressed to Mansfield University Advancement Office, Ground Floor Alumni Hall, 31 S. Academy Street, Mansfield, PA 16933, Attn: Casey Wood, Executive Director of Advancement.
