Mansfield soccer falls to Lady Hornets, 2-0
Two second half goals pushed the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team past rival North Penn-Mansfield on Wednesday, September 20.
The first 65 minutes of the game was a defensive battle as both Wellsboro’s Sydney Tremper and Mansfield’s Alaina McKee saved early shot attempt between the teams. In the 66th minute, however, the Lady Hornets finally found the back of the net. Emma Poirier stepped in front of a Mansfield pass attempt, then found Kerrah Clymer streaking towards the net for the goal with 14:28 left on the clock.
Wellsboro added their second goal with 49 seconds remaining. Poirier picked up her second assist of the game as she found senior Kailee Clymer for a breakaway goal.
The Lady Hornets outshot Mansfield 20-9 and had a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks. Tremper recorded 8 saves in goal for Wellsboro to earn the shutout. McKee stopped 13 shots for North Penn-Mansfield.
Wellsboro’s JV team also shutout Mansfield, 6-0 to improve to 2-1-1.
The win improves Wellsboro’s record to 3-1 (3-1 NTL). Wellsboro will be back in action on Friday, September 22 at Northeast Bradford while North Penn-Mansfield (0-7-1) is off until Monday, September 25 at Wyalusing.
