The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

2018 NTL Track & Field Championships
The Northern Tier League held their track and field championships on Friday, May 11 at Athens Area High School, with the Towanda Black Knights winning the boys title and the Athens Wildcats winning the girls crown.

In the boys meet, Towanda won with 139.75, followed by Wyalusing (130), Athens (101.75), Canton (78), Wellsboro, Northern Tioga (67.75), Troy (43), Northeast Bradford (40), North Penn-Mansfield (24), and Sayre (4).

Athens ran away with the girls meet with a score of 163.5, followed by Troy (110), Northern Tioga (103.5), Wyalusing (64), Wellsboro, Canton (53.5), Towanda (46), Northeast Bradford (44), Sayre (32), and North Penn-Mansfield (22).
Election Day Candidate Statements
The “special” election is to fill out the remainder of Matt Bakers term. Any registered voter can vote in the special election. You will see Carrie Heath, the Democrat-endorsed candidate, and Clint Owlett, the Republican-endorsed candidate, on the ballot. You will also have the opportunity to write-in Melissa Bravo or the candidate of your choice.
From Poop to Power
A local farm is pioneering innovative territory for our area! With thousands of pigs to tend to, the Remley family (Remley Farms Energy LLC) had no shortage of manure at their disposal. Seeing this material as a resource, Drew and Lisa, along with their children, pressed through a journey that ended up taking five years to complete. Their goal was to become more self-sustaining, more environmentally conscious, and to reduce long-term utility costs. How did the Remley’s realize this significant objective? Through installing a Digestion Facility right on their farm!
Step Outdoors Springfest 2018
At 8 a.m., Saturday morning, Tiadaghton Audubon Society members Rich Hanlon and Rich Faber will lead a bird walk at the park just before Springfest gets underway. The May 19 walk is free and open to anyone who wants to go. The pace will be slow and cover a limited distance to provide an opportunity to see the many varieties of water and woodland birds that live in or migrate through the park. The trails are easy and relatively level. The spring migration is in full swing. Walkers will see many colorful birds, such as Baltimore orioles, scarlet tanagers, rose-breasted grosbeaks, indigo buntings, and a variety of wood warblers. The walk can last two hours depending on how many birds are seen. Bring binoculars and cameras. Wear dark clothing and waterproof or water-resistant footwear. Meet at 7:55 a.m. at the Hills Creek State Park office at 111 Spillway Road Wellsboro.
Back to Basics: Simple Thanks, Big Impact
Have you felt discouraged lately? I think if we’re honest, we would all have to admit we feel discouraged on a fairly regular basis. Sometimes that discouragement just comes from some bad news or a bad day. Sometimes it lasts a little longer and you get a case of “the blues.” Sometimes, it could be serious depression. Those struggles are real. God made us to be emotional creatures and we shouldn’t run from those feelings.

But there are some things we can do to help us remember the truth when we’re feeling down: we have a lot to be thankful for. We have been blessed in a number of ways. What are some of the things YOU have to be thankful for? One of the best times to consider that is when you’re not discouraged. Make a list of all the things that you have that you can be thankful for – you might even be surprised at how long the list becomes.
