It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

Panthers win defensive battle
The North Penn-Mansfield Panthers started the 2017 season off with a 14-10 win over Northwest Area on Friday, August 25.

Both teams struggled early on as both defenses were flying all over the field, but eventually the Rangers mounted a drive that found the end zone. With 2:55 remaining in the opening quarter, David Piestrak found room on the right side of his offensive line and dove to the front pylon from 9 yards out to jump out to an early lead.

Chamber Highlights – Fun in the Fall
“Mansfield Heritage Weekend: 1890’s to present” will take place September 30, with festivities happening from 9am-7pm. Some aspects of the event we can look forward to include a parade, games, contests, shopping, food, and more. The festival is dedicated to recreating the town’s history, and demonstrating the growth and change in our local setting throughout the last 100+ years. And, of course, there will be a reenactment of the first football game played under lights, commemorating the momentous time that electricity came to Mansfield for the first night football game 125 years ago. The celebration will end with a Mansfield home game against Cornell University. This historic and action packed day will include something for everyone, and a great time for all!

She explained that there’s actual science behind the idea of sleep clearing your head. When we sleep, cerebral spinal fluid is released that flushes things out and helps the brain clear and refresh. So, when facing a difficult decision or processing a tough day, it truly will help to “sleep on it”!

Gone Electrofishin’!
Electrofishing is a fascinating subject. Do you know what it is? Well, today on The Home Page Network Sara Vogt joins Biologist and area fisheries Manager of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Robert Wunk to discover it’s importance.

Fisheries biologists use electrofishing to sample fish populations in bodies of freshwater as a means of making sure the fish population is healthy and in balance. The biologists catch fish by putting electric current into the water. This process temporarily stuns the fish at which point they will float to the surface. The fish are then placed into tubs and examined.
