“It’s About Time” for Girl Scouts!
Mountain Laurel Girl Scout day camp was held July 24-27 at Hills Creek State Park. The camp was open to girls entering grades 1-12. Girls did not need to be scouts to attend camp. Each year the camp basis its activities on a new theme. This year’s theme was, “It’s About Time.”
Each unit picked a time-period with which they decorated their camp site, made a flag, designed costumes and created a song or cheer. The girls covered such time periods as ancient Egypt and the wild west. There were representations from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, & 90’s and into the future. According to sources, there were even some pirates!

Tioga County Fair Animal Round-Up
Summer time also means Fair time. Many of our area’s youth have been preparing throughout the year for the eventful week.
There is a lot to do, to prepare an animal for the show. Each animal, and sometimes breed, have different rules about how they must stand or perform in front of the judge. Exhibitors work with their animals for months teaching them what they want them to do.
The exhibitor must also “fit” the animal which may include washing, combing, and clipping hair. The animals need to be identified by using ear tags, leg bands or tattooing. They also need to be checked by a veterinarian to limit the spread of disease.
We encourage you to come on out to the fair and support the kids and the work they do. Please ask them questions about their animals. They love to share their knowledge.
