Local Students Prepare For Children’s Business Fair

by Rachel Smith - July 19, 2022

On August 5th, 2022 the 5th Annual Children’s Business Fair will take place in Wellsboro. Karter Campbell, a business fair veteran and now co-coordinator for the event, joined Rachel Smith in the studio to talk about this year’s program.

Karter has been participating in the business fair since it began in 2018. He has created a variety of businesses such as slime, desserts disguised as other foods, home made hand sanitizer, and epoxy resin jewelry and key chains. Karter explains that a lot of work goes into creating a business for the business fair, including some math in figuring out how much to charge for his products. He has learned many lessons through his participation in the business fair but his favorite experience is always the day of the fair. The excitement of setting up, interacting with customers, and sharing the experience with his fellow young entrepreneurs at the fair are some of Karter’s favorite memories from past years. He has also enjoyed donating his profits to a variety of charities including the American Cancer Society.

Karter says that the Children’s Business Fair has helped him in school through his participation in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). This year he went to a national FBLA competition and chose to compete in one of the entrepreneurship events because he felt confident in his experience with the business fairs. While he’s unsure exactly what career path he will take, Karter says the business fairs have opened up his mind to considering a career in entrepreneurism.

The Children’s Business Fair is open to any child (18 and under) in Tioga County and there is still time to register for this year’s event. Contact Rachel Smith at rachelwellsboro27@gmail.com for more information.
